FENG SHUI TIPS FOR BEDROOM

Dos and Dont's to Improve the Feng Shui of Your Bedroom

At first glance, feng shui, the ancient art of arranging our living spaces, appears to have little to do with alternative medicine. But feng shui is actually based on many of the same principles as acupuncture. Instead of energy or chi flow in your body, feng shui is said to improve the flow of chi around you, which is thought to improve health.

Although the principles of feng shui can be applied to any room in the home, one of the most important yet often neglected rooms is our most private space: the bedroom. The layout and decor of your bedroom, according to feng shui, can affect the quality of your sleep. A bedroom with good feng shui is thought to help you sleep better and is even said to strengthen your romantic relationships. Here are some simple tips to improve the feng shui of your bedroom.

1. Position Your Bed Correctly
The ideal bed placement allows you to see the bedroom door while laying in bed without being directly in front or in line with it. According to feng shui, having a view of the door without being too close to it gives you a sense of safety while you rest and is conducive to relaxation and sleep. Typically, this ideal bed position is in the corner of the bedroom diagonally opposite the door.

The foot of the bed shouldn't point out the bedroom door. In feng shui, this position is known as the "coffin" position and puts your bed in the main path of traffic, which isn't relaxing. If this position is the only one possible, a footboard, high bench or table at the foot of the bed can buffer the effects. It just shouldn't be so high that it blocks your view of the door.

The head of the bed should be placed against a wall rather than under a window or away from the wall. A bed against a window is thought to cause chi to enter and leave through the window, resulting in restless sleep.

If there are two people sleeping in the bed, there should be equal space on both sides of the bed so each person can get into and out of bed easily.
Finally, a bed shouldn't be positioned under a structural or decorative beam or ceiling fan. According to feng shui, this isn't good for either health or relationships. If moving your bed isn't an option, feng shui practitioners sometimes recommend hanging a bamboo flute (a special feng shui device) from the beam to offset the effects.

2. Use Your Bedroom Only as a Bedroom
Television, computers, exercise gear or a workspace in your bedroom are thought to distract you from rest, symbolize wakefulness and take up energy. If you have a TV and aren't willing to move it, consider putting it in an armoire and keeping the doors closed while you sleep. A piece of fabric covering the TV at night will also do the trick as long as it's not sloppy. If there's no other place for your exercise gear or workspace, consider getting a screen to block them from view when not in use.

3. Keep Your Bedroom Clutter-Free
No one wants a cluttered bedroom, but according to feng shui, clutter can block the flow of chi, lead to stagnation, disturb sleep and generally prevent things in your life from moving forward.

The area under your bed shouldn't be used as a storage area and should be as clear as possible. Your closet should also be tidy and the door should be closed at night, or it's thought to be depleting. Periodically weed out clothes that are no longer worn and consider getting organizers to hold accessories.
Finally, nightstand drawers and dressers should be organized. Avoid piling books on top of them.

4. Use Mirrors Carefully Or Not At All
According to feng shui, if you aren't sleeping well, a mirror in your bedroom may be the culprit. Mirrors are thought to bounce energy around the bedroom, which may result in poor sleep and restlessness. They're also said to amplify worries.
Mirrors should be avoided next to a bed or on the wall above the bed. You shouldn't be able to see yourself reflected in a mirror while laying in bed.

Feng shui consultants also say to avoid hanging a mirror on the wall opposite your bed because it's thought to promote the intrusion of a third party into the relationship and possibly encourage infidelity. If in doubt, remove large mirrors from the room or cover them with a piece of fabric when you go to sleep.

5. Accessorize in Pairs and Use Relaxing Themes and Rounded Corners
When selecting art for your bedroom, avoid sad or upsetting images and avoid images with only one person, which symbolize solitude. Another type of image to be cautious about is one that has a waterfall, lake or river as the dominant theme. Although water generally symbolizes money in feng shui and is thought to be beneficial in other areas of the home, water in the bedroom may promote financial or relationship losses. If you do have an inspiring, relaxing or uplifting piece of art, one of the best places for it is on the wall opposite your bed. It's the first thing you'll see when you wake up in the morning and the last thing you'll see when you go to bed at night.

In general, try to choose pairs of accessories. Adults should have two nightstands rather than one. Ovals and circles, whether it's the shape of your nightstand or the type of accessories you select, are better than shapes with sharp corners.

6. Select Relaxing, Balanced Colors

According to feng shui, warm colors reminiscent of skin tones are thought to be soothing, such as cream, peach, beige, yellow, coral, tan or cocoa.

Light blues, greens and lavenders are considered to be restful and conducive to sleep. But too many cool colors, such as grays, blues or stark whites are believed to interfere with relaxation. A balance of 50% warm skin tones and 50% cool blues, greens or lavenders is often suggested.

Don't feel overwhelmed if your bedroom has many of the feng shui don'ts. It's almost impossible, unless you're designing your home from the ground up, to have your rooms adhere to all feng shui guidelines. Just try to change what you can.

Although these principles of feng shui for the bedroom haven't been proven scientifically to improve sleep, if you aren't sleeping well and it's not due to an underlying medical cause, these tips may help to make your bedroom a more comfortable and restful place and that may improve your sleep.

STRENGTHEN YOUR FENG SHUI MONEY AREA OF YOUR HOME.

Learn how to find and strengthen the feng shui money area of your home

The feng shui element of the Southeast area is Wood, so be mindful about not placing Metal or Fire element objects and colors in the Money area. In the destructive cycle of the five feng shui elements Metal cuts the Wood and Fire burns the Wood. As your focus is to strengthen the Wood feng shui element energy of the Money area, it is best to avoid the elements that weaken the Wood.

To encourage a good energy flow in your money area (SE) and to strengthen the energy of money and wealth, follow the simple feng shui tips below.

You can strengthen the Wood feng shui element of the Money area with: Healthy, lush green plants

A beautiful water feature (actual or an image)

Colors blue, green and brown, the colors of the feng shui elements of Wood and Water. You can also add the colors of the feng shui element of Earth, as Earth supports the Wood element.

Feng Shui for Wealth
Good Feng Shui, affirm the Masters, but it does not bring you wealth if you do not strive for it, but it gives you the necessary support to seek fame and fortune. It helps you create an environment, both at home and in the business, that will strengthen you and attract the energies to manifest your wealth.

Have your home and business free of clutter, display symbols in your environment that speak to you of abundance, use proper crystals and essential oils to energize the space and invite the desired energies. Citrine, for example, is long known for attracting wealth, as well strengthening your self-esteem.

Pyrite, the "sun mineral" is also considered to attract the energy of abundance. It is especially good in the Southeast area (Abundance & Prosperity) or South (Fame) of your home or business.

Use essential oils to clear and energize your environment by enhancing and fortifying the flow of Chi. The more Chi (vital energy) your environment has, the stronger your own energy field, thus the ability to attract and manifest more abundance in your life. Maintain high oxygen levels at all times.

Use fountains - very powerful cures to attract abundance and fresh Chi. Images of flowing water - waterfalls, seas, rivers, etc are also very good, as water is a symbol of abundance. Water images with lots of foam and open views are especially powerful. However, there are certain areas in the home and business, where water cures should not be displayed, for example in the South area.

Did you know that many Asian millionaires do not sell the places where they lived or worked (if owning the business) while becoming rich? Knowing the power of the space, they keep them for luck.

Fountains are very popular in feng shui because they bring the energy of water, and water is an ancient feng shui symbol of abundance and prosperity. The other great feng shui reason to use a fountain indoors is the fact that a working fountain will diffuse healthy negative ions into the air, as well as add more humidity. Many indoor environments are starving for this popular feng shui!

Best feng shui areas to have your feng shui fountain are the following:
East - Health & Family
Southeast - Prosperity and Abundance
North - Career & Path in Life
East - Health & Family
Southeast - Prosperity and Abundance
North - Career & Path in Life

The location of your feng shui fountain is determined by the Ba-Gua, or the feng shui energy map, as well as the interplay of the five feng shui elements. It is not advisable to place a water feature/feng shui fountain in the South area, as in feng shui South is connected to your Fame and Reputation, and the energy of it is Fire. If you bring the Water feng shui element (fountain) into the Fire element feng shui area (South), you are creating bad feng shui/conflicting energy, as Water puts down the Fire.

It is bad feng shui to have a water feature in your bedroom, no matter which feng shui area of your house your bedroom is located in. The water feng shui element brings the energy of worry into the bedroom, thus a fountain in the bedroom is not recommended.

On a practical level, when buying this feng shui product, choose a good quality fountain with a silent motor; as well as a fountain with a design that it is easy to keep clean. You can place some feng shui crystals or stones in your fountain, which will strengthen the beneficial energy, or sheng chi; as well as purchase a fountain that allows you to diffuse specific essential oils into the air.

Using crystals and stones, as well as essential oils with your fountain, will double the energy benefits of this very popular feng shui cure.

Why is a Mirror Facing the Main Door Bad Feng Shui?

Mirrors are called the aspirin of feng shui for a good reason. With the proper placement of mirrors, you can considerably shift the feng shui energy flow and create better feng shui in a home or office.

A mirror facing the main door is one of the two big taboos in feng shui (second one being a mirror facing a bed.)

The reason it is not recommended to have a mirror facing the main door is because the mirror pushes away all the good feng shui energy that is about to enter the house.

In feng shui it is considered that the house absorbs energy (Chi) through the main door, similar to a human face absorbing nutrition through the mouth. This is why the main door is often called the mouth of a house in feng shui.

Distance will only slightly change the effect of the mirror facing the main door, so if you have a mirror directly facing the main door, best feng shui advice is to remove it.

If you cannot remove the mirror, for example if the mirror is built-in and you are renting the place, or if you have mirrored closet doors facing the main door, then you have to look for creative solutions.

Feng shui always works best when it is applied in a creative and subtle way. So, cover the mirror with some creative applique, for example, or paint over it with a washable paint in a great color.

Other suitable feng shui solutions: Have a lush, big plant in front of the mirror.

Tastefully hang a suitable size piece of art over the mirror, be absolutely sure it looks good.

Have a tall enough piece of furniture centered on the mirrored wall. Again, you have to be sure it looks good.

Have applique, or decorative stickers on the mirror (Ikea has some great wall or mirror stickers.)

Feng Shui Tips for a Bed in Line with the Bathroom Door It might be helpful to know that perfect feng shui bedrooms are hard to find. Just like anything perfect, really...

This can be a good starting point in changing your situation from bad feng shui to a better feng shui flow in your bedroom.

Ideally your bed should not be aligned with any doors - be they bedroom doors, bathroom doors or closet doors.

Bed is Facing the Bathroom Door and the Toilet

It might be helpful to know that perfect feng shui bedrooms are hard to find. Just like anything perfect, really... This can be a good starting point in changing your situation from bad feng shui to a better feng shui flow in the bedroom.

First, be sure to apply the feng shui tips for a bed facing the door, or, more precisely, a bed in line with the bedroom door. After you have applied these feng shui tips to the best of your abilities, focus on neutralizing the potential negative energy in the bathroom.

Basically, you want to create an invisible (or visible!) division between the bathroom and the bedroom, and here are a couple ways you can do that with good feng shui in mind: Keep the bedroom, as well as the bathroom doors closed most of the time. This is a basic, common sense advice that is often forgotten.

Find a way to strengthen the bedroom door and weaken the bathroom door. You can do that with color, for example, or find you own creative way to clearly indicate which door of the two is more important and needs to attract more energy.

If you decide to hang a mirror on the bathroom door (a popular feng shui cure for bathroom doors), be sure to choose a small mirror. It is not best feng shui to face a big mirror as soon as you leave the bedroom.

Take good care of your bathroom and keep its energy fresh, i.e. use candles, essential oil diffusers or mists, bring art to create a sense of beauty.

You can also choose to "ground" the energy near the toilet, which can be done in many ways. For example, you can choose to go with a big bowl containing river rocks or crystals, and place it on a small shelf above the toilet, or install a bigger bathroom shelf unit on the wall above the toilet and have it filled with spa-related items.

Take good care of your bathroom and keep its energy fresh, i.e. use candles, essential oil diffusers or mists, bring art to create a sense of beauty.

If you take good care of the feng shui energy in your bathroom and create an effective subtle division between the bathroom and the bedroom, I am sure a day will come when this potentially bad feng shui set-up will not worry you anymore.

How Do I Use Essential Oils for Good Feng Shui?
There are several ways you can use the power of essential oils for good feng shui in your home or office. I will share some basic feng shui tips.

However, before we look into the ways essential oils can create good feng shui energy, it is important to have a basic understanding of what essential oils are and how to choose the best oils for feng shui purposes.

In simple terms, an essential oil is an oil of the plant from which it is extracted, the pure essence of it.

Be mindful about distinguishing essential oils from perfumed, or fragrant oils, which do not have the same healing properties because of the synthetic oil content.

First, find out the properties of most popular essential oils and decide which ones you would like to experiment with in your feng shui applications, and in which rooms in your home.

Your bedroom, for example, will definitely benefit from soothing sensual scents of rose, ylang ylang or jasmine, while a home or an office can improve its energy with a good dose of peppermint and clary sage or lemongrass in the air.

Once you have made your choice of pure essential oils for feng shui purposes, such as lavender for purification and calming energy, or peppermint essential oil for clarity, it is how the way you actually use them?

There are three basic ways of using essential oils for good feng shui energy: Diffuser: Candle or Electric. You can use an electrical (compare prices) or a candle diffuser (compare prices) The easiest way to safely diffuse essential oils into the air is with an electric diffuser. All you have to do is follow the simple instructions, such as fill the container with pure water, add several drops of essential oils, choose the time setting and voila - you can start enjoying the healing scents in your home. Using candle diffusers is a bit trickier as you have to watch the water levels. If you forget about your candle diffuser you might remember about it by the burning smell of oils evaporating with no water, but I prefer electric diffusers for their convenience.

Airspray: Store-bought or Self-made. Spraying an essential oil mix into the air is the easiest, quickest way to change the quality of energy around you. There is a variety of essential oil mists on the market - from love energy mists with soothing, sensual oils to travel jet lag mists to help strengthen your immune system. If you want to make your own mix, all you need is a spray bottle, preferably glass. Next you fill the bottle with pure water and add several drops of essential oil. Shake it and use it, it is the easy way to do it.

It is important to read the ingredients and be sure the products you choose contain pure essential oils versus fragrant or perfume oils. Both the candles and the incense will have a slightly different scent because of the combination of all ingredients. You will have to experiment and see what works best for you and your home. You will also have to be mindful about choosing candles with healthy ingredients.

The use of essential oils is a fascinating topic and here we covered the very basics of it. You can understand it better by exploring aromatherapy and finding ways to bring the healing scents of nature into your home.

In conclusion, it might be helpful to know that an essential oil of the same plant, say lavender, for example, can have a slightly different scent when purchased from different companies, or even from the same company in different years. This does not necessarily mean that the oil with a slightly different scent is of a lower quality. It just means that the production of essential oils includes many variables, such as the country of origin, the way of extracting the essential oil, as well as the local weather and soil conditions.
